New York City developer Harry Macklowe’s Hamptons home is on the market for $38 million, but there’s a slight problem—technically, it’s not habitable.
According to The Washington Post , that’s because the newly built mansion on Georgeka Pond in East Hampton doesn’t have a certificate of occupancy, meaning anyone who buys the home won’t be legally allowed to live there. New York Post.
The home lacks a certificate of occupancy as McCullough currently has hot water on the east side Hampton Officers illegally cleared protected land on which the house sits, built extensions on the house without permission and were issued fines for 21 separate offenses that have not been paid for five years.
The East Hampton Village Zoning Board refused to retroactively approve McClowe’s unpermitted expansion, so McClowe sued them. The case is ongoing.
McCullough is no stranger to surrendering licenses. He gained notoriety in New York City’s development industry in 1985 when he hired a demolition company to blow up a row of buildings on West 44th Street without proper permits, just as the city was enforcing a demolition ban of a few hours ago single room residential building.
