All eyes this week will be on Wednesday’s March Consumer Price Index report. The overall CPI is expected to increase by 0.4% month-on-month, the same as February, and an annual increase of 3.1%, slightly lower than the previous 3.2%. The core consumer price index (CPI) fell to +0.3% month-on-month and +3.7% year-on-year.
In addition, investors will also pay attention to the minutes of the Federal Reserve’s March meeting, which are also scheduled to be released on Wednesday. Market participants will keep a close eye on meeting minutes and consumer inflation reports for further clues on the future of monetary policy after hot labor market data last week dampened the chances of a rate cut. Next week will also mark the start of the first-quarter earnings season.
